Waiting for the train
Camino del Norte, Day 0.
Madrid to Santander (by train)
Santander is a popular summer holiday destination on the north coast of Spain. It is also a major city on the Camino de Norte route, and seemed a good place to start our Camino journey from.
Our train journey started with a bit of adventure – or shall we say – misadventure this morning. The city train which would connect us with the country train did not arrive and after waiting for almost an hour, we ran for the metro train – but that didn’t go smoothly either as the machine gobbled our credit card. Frantically pressing every button we could see, the card was finally spewed out and we ran to catch the metro, connecting with the country line in time – shew! That was close. Navigating the public transport system in Spain with no Spanish was challenging!
