Camino Primitivo – Ups and Downs
We heard this route to Santiago was tough, and I can confirm it is. It’s taking us about 8hrs each day to cover 20 or so kms. That does include rest stops & and the requisite daily “cafe con leche” break. OK i confess, sometimes twice daily cafe stop!
This Primitovo route is more like a hike than a pilgrimage. The area is rugged with fewer villages and albergues than the other Caminos. The scenery has been quite spectacular & makes it well worth it. A lot of the trail is also off road, which is a pleasure for the feet compared to walking on asphalt. But be prepared for steep climbs and even steeper descents.
Some pic’s of us above the cloudline. And some of us walking up through the clouds before reaching the sun. Good thing we couldnt see how far down we had to go! And how far up!
PS. Note the baquette (pan in Spain) being carried in the backpack for lunch.
Downhill through the pine plantation. Concluded that pine needles are the softest surface to walk on. Made for very happy feet!
