Gear Tips
These are 3 items you may not think of when packing for the Camino, but I found them indispensable.
Eye Patches
The type you used to get on international flights with a pair of socks. Aside from wearing on the flights to block out light, they are particulalary useful during the aftenoon siesta for letting fellow pilgrims you are resting. Its like wearing a “do not disturb sign”. This small item is very effective at blocking out the world & making you feel cocooned so you can rest. More useful for me than ear plugs. Weighs in at ?? grams.
Shower sponge & liquid soap.
Liquid soap can be used as shower gel, shampoo and laundry detergent. A small bottle (20ml) is all you need as you can refill it at most albergues from soap left behind from other pilgrims.
The sponge is great as it doesnt require much soap and the slightly abrasive texture washes of dirt and sun screen more effectively than just using a bar of soap. Drys quickly. Weighs in at ?? grams.
Scarf
Multi-purpose:
-as a tablecloth (for picnics on the trail)
– as a scarf when the weather turns cool
– as a sun block around the neck or under the hat (actually used it around my sunburnt arm to prevent double burning)
– as a bandage
– tying things onto your backpack
